Community Update – Summer 2021
Greetings! We are now well into the summer season. Many people are moving past Covid stress and our area of the forest is busy. We are seeing many campers and vacationers in the forest surrounding our Fire District, which brings increased risk and concerns to the first responders who are your source of medical and fire response. Sherwood Forest Estates Fire Department and the other volunteer departments in the immediate Williams area are working diligently on training and preparedness. The Foundation supports those endeavors.
Our Foundation has been increasing our visibility, and therefore stimulating donations, with Foundation volunteers serving in community activities in the Williams area. These events include a Ladies Firearms Safety class, Veterans events, Concerts, and other service organization activities. Without financial support from donors like you it becomes challenging to respond to Fire District grant requests and to fulfill the Foundation’s mission of helping SFEFD and other fire departments to have the capability to deliver high quality fire and medical service.
As you know, last year Arizona had one of its worst wildfire seasons in nearly a decade. Statistics show 2,520 wildfires burned 978,519 acres of state, federal and tribal lands in 2020. Our state has already had several fires this year. Our continued severe drought conditions create an environment which could allow a structure or wildfire to travel very quickly through our area. We urge everyone to be “fire wise” and to contact the Sherwood Forest Estates Fire Department for recommendations on how you can best protect your area of the community.
A number of residents have reported that they did not receive the Sherwood Firefighters Foundation Winter 2021 update which was distributed in January. Copies of the winter update were provided to both District neighborhood organization presidents for distribution through their email networks. That mechanism apparently omitted distribution to some, so a copy of the winter update is included with this summer update and is being distributed through the USPS, unfortunately a more costly method. If you would like to reduce Foundation expenses by receiving future mailings electronically, please request same from your HOA or POA President. Both Associations are provided with all updates electronically.
Funding for communications projects and SFFD station improvement projects that were discussed in the winter update are proceeding along the schedule as determined by the SFEFD Fire Chief.
We thank you for your generous past financial support to the Foundation. We encourage you to continue to make tax deductible donations that directly impact your Fire Department and Community through our website: www.sherwoodfirefightersfoundation.org or by mail to the address above. Thank you again, and be safe out there!
